2006 Bentley GTZ

Story and History

1 of 8 Zagato bodied cars

Only 9000 miles from new

Full Bentley history

The Bentley Continental GT was much maligned by the press when the first cars came off the Crewe production line in 2003 but in the last two decades it has gone on to become recognised as one of if not THE best Grand Tourer's of this century

With a silky smooth W12 engine providing mountains of power but no intrusion unless desired the mantra of early Bentley's as silent sports cars was truly perfected with the Conti GT

As such a capable and all round splendid car the Continental range quickly became Bentley's best ever selling model, shows how wrong the press can be...

The down side of this popularity & success, of course, is that rarity is not an attribute of which the standard Continental GT's boast

Fear not though, as extreme rarity is exactly what we are dealing with here, only eight Zagato bodied GTZ's were ever produced. Only two of those were in right hand drive

Whenever Zagato pen the shape of a motorcar the interest of all enthusiasts is dramatically peaked, the legendary Carrossier evoking feelings of nostalgia & the halcyon days of 1950 & 60's race cars and the infamous double bubble

Although the interest of many is exacerbated the reality of ownership is however reserved for the few, Zagato bodied cars are famously exacting and in the case of the GTZ this certainly is true with every panel hand crafted in aluminium giving her the stunning shape

Cost when new was obviously quite significant, somewhere around half a million plus the cost of the car plus the cost to get her to Zagato's Milanese factory

As ever with proper coachbuilt cars the cost of some parts is quite eye watering, the rear lights for example are reported to have cost £15,000 a side!! The rear glass that so elegantly continues the line of the double bubble roof, will have been far in excess of that

In addition to the special body Zagato re-trimmed the interior in new leather with 'Z' stitching in all the seat-backs and embossed into all four headrests as well as adding a bespoke leather headlining

With only 9000 miles from new & 10 service stamps, all from Bentley themselves, our car is in immaculate condition and starts, runs & drives exactly as one would expect from a Continental

Underneath she is a standard Continental GT and therefore is such a pleasure to use one could even consider doing so everyday, or she could be kept in any discerning collectors stable, as she has been thus far in life, as a statement of the finest version of the Continental GT anywhere in the world
