1959 Bentley S1 Continental by HJ Mulliner - Unique S1 Body Style
A rather special car this one - the only S1 fitted with this style of body and in fact this is the only body to this particular design
Normally all HJ Mulliner coupes to that point had used the Fastback design for the S1 series
Records show that HJ Mulliner made 151 Continental coupes in S1 format of which virtually all were this famous Fastback design
This, the last S1 Continental 2 Door by HJ Mulliner came with this special Prototype body, which was to be used on the yet to be released S2 Continental
There were, however, some subtle changes, most notable around the front and rear of the vehicle - where the radiator is higher and the boot shut line and number plate housing are changed from that which was to be used for the S2
The bonnet line was higher as the S2 enjoyed the new V8 engine and the boot line was changed as the S2 had a more commodious boot with a lower shut line to ease entry and exit of luggage
Presented in exceptional condition this car was previously enjoyed by PJ Fischer himself who kept her from 1990 until the mid 2000's - undertaking a full restoration whilst in his care
A note he has placed on the file confirms that as this was a car for his own personal use there were 300 hours spent on the mechanicals and another 300 hours on the cosmetic side
Subsequently he showed her in various concours events such as the prestigious Louis Vuitton, Paris as well as the BDC Masters Class
The original owner was none other than Michael Winners' father George, who kept her until the mid 1970's when she was passed to Michael for his own use. At this stage the mileage was only around 40.000 and when Mr.Fischer purchased her in 1990 the mileage had crept up to 83.500. Since 1990 the mileage has crept further to 98.750
Finished in Tudor Grey with Light Grey interior she also has Colonial Tinted Glass, Power Steering, Automatic Transmission, Picnic Tables, a super powerful stereo and recently fitted Air Conditioning
A very special car indeed and in superb condition
