1975 Bentley T Series

Story and History

1975 Bentley T Series - flared arches & chrome bumpers

A super 'T' series and one of the rarest of all - being the later version fitted with the 235/70 Avon tyres, which necessitated the delicately flared wheel arches

The shape of the motorcar changed somewhat, just by this subtle change and as they were introduced for the 1974 model year and were outdated by the introduction of the T2 for the 1977 model year only few were ordered

Remember, in October 1974 there was the OPEC Oil crisis, where petrol supplies were limited by the Middle East oil producers and drivers were imposed with severe petrol rationing - there were queues down the road for fuel

Sales of cars with a higher fuel consumption were hit hard, and even Bentley sales were affected, hence the version we are offering here is one of only a few ever available

Originally supplied by JD Barclay Ltd of Oxford (Jack's second dealership after he had sold the Berkeley Square business) the specification in those days was impressive with lambswool over rugs, rear headrests (not front as most owners sat in the back in those days), cruise control, 4 speaker stereo, sundym safety glass and ice cold air conditioning all as standard

Our beautiful example is in remarkable condition, with all books, papers, service voucher booklet with both small and large tools since new

The fabulous interior leather is original and not re-coloured whilst the walnut veneers have been re-lacquered to original condition

The exterior has been treated to a bare metal repaint, with chrome also having been attended to and all works undertaken by our friends at XK Engineering

Again the last owner, well known to us, has a rather large collection of cars and he is insistent on all of them being in top fettle, hence the servicing has been carried out his local authorised Bentley dealership

Indeed when we opened the bonnet to inspect the engine bay, and to ascertain what cleaning / detailing was required we found that nothing was needed

The engine bay was as it would have been when leaving the factory in Crewe 47 years ago

To be fair this is not an under statement for he has lavished more than £25.000 in the last few years

Prior to his ownership the Bentley had been owned by none other than Sir Michael Winner since 1985

Famed film director, food critic of the Sunday Times and lunching chum of Sir Roger Moore and Sir Michael Caine for 50 years

He lived quite close to us in Holland Park and we occasionally saw him pottering about in this or his Phantom, so we knew the car if not him personally

A really nice touch, was that when he died he left the Bentley to his Chauffeur

We have recently been re-acquainted with her after a 3 year gap, where has been enjoying time with celebrity owner, who knows a thing or two about Bentley T series, for he has purchased at least 4 from us over the years

So, yes, he is discerning buyer, hence this is one of the better T series that you could ever find
