1963 Piaggio Vespa

Story and History

1963 Piaggio Vespa GL150 - restored condition

So reminiscent of Roma and sunny scenes in the 1960's with girls wearing head scarfs and Capri pants - all in pastel shades, just like our fabulous Scooter presented here

This wonderful little Vespa certainly is a treat, and our new friend Giuseppe was so enthusiastic about the quality of the restoration we'd fallen in love before she even arrived

He told us that apparently it's extremely rare, having the newly introduced 148cc engine but retaining the older, and more iconic, wider body style

The restoration experts in Italy who carried out the works managed to spend over €3.000 on new parts alone

Shock absorbers front & rear

Battery

White band tyres

Rubbers

Carburetor

Brakes shoes

Exhaust

Electrics

Engine rebuild & etc

These chaps, from the rural North East, are more used to 4 wheeled Italian super cars so that Scooter was quite a lot of fun for them and they certainly went to town

Nicely all the original aluminium trim pieces, right down to the helmet hook have been retained, except the front headlamp

Beautiful tan hide has been used to cushion the rear end of both driver and pillion and matches the Vanilla paintwork perfectly

She runs wonderfully with the twist grip 4-speed transmission working well behind the left hand clutch mechanism

Perfect for the hobby scooterist to take to a favourite coffee shop or patisserie and if not in Roma then somewhere equally romantic

A copy of the original Italian Identity card is present in the history file (very nice to have this old paperwork), along with UK registration papers, and fresh UK MOT making this rare GL150 ready to go and on the button (well, on the kick start to be precise).

As the memorable 60s advert used to read in bold print, Vespariffic!
