1979 Range Rover

Story and History

1979 Range Rover Classic 3 Door - Complete Nut & Bolt Restoration - ex HRH the Prince of Wales

An amazing example of these lovely and now sought after early Range Rovers

This example was supplied new to the Royal Mews in Buckingham Palace for the exclusive use of HRH Prince Charles - at that time still a single fellow

It sat alongside his DB6 Volante which he received as a gift for his 21st Birthday

When he specified the new Range Rover many unique features were included at the time to include:

Pockets to both front doors

Wood Trim to both front doors & to the rear seat back

A low emission engine (this specification engine became standard on Export vehicle to Switzerland 15.000 units later!!!)

A full opening Webasto roof - useful when bird watching in Balmoral

Electric Windows

An Econometer to show how economically you are driving

Dog Mascot to bonnet (gun dog with pheasant in mouth)

This last item is not fitted but comes with the car and the bonnet is prepared ready for quick fitting should the next owner wish

This Range Rover became quite famous when he became Engaged to Diana Spencer and indeed was used whilst at Balmoral on their Honeymoon

The History file includes various videos with footage of their use of the car together with some books which also contain photos of the car whilst in their patronage

The last owner of this car had very many other vehicles in his collection, including an original Countach LP400 and a Muira SV and he decided to entrust JE Engineering with the job of re-instating the car to original condition

They took him to his word and carried out a complete "nut & bolt" restoration

The total expenditure comes to 72.609:60 and as you would imagine for that sort of outlay the vehicle is the best I have come across

So in essence a brand new Range Rover Classic 3 Door, for the same price as a new Range Rover today
