1985 Porsche 911

Story and History

1985 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 Sport Targa - Restored Condition

As the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity attests, this smashing Targa was produced in January 1985 and registered as soon at is was delivered to Roger Clark MBE - you know, the famed British rally driver, winner of the British Rally Championship 4 times, who was also used for men's hairspray advertising in the period (don't we love the seventies!!)

It would seem that the Porsche was either snapped up off the showroom floor, or more likely, it was pre-ordered and collected immediately after arrival, as the first registration date was 11.02.1985

She has a 'mega spec' with full black leather, electric & heated mirror, central locking, sports seats with electric height adjustment, 7" & 8" Fuchs, top tinted windscreen and of course as a Sport model the rear and nose spoilers are fitted as well as the Sport shock absorbers

Additional to the factory specification is the upgraded modern stereo, with super speakers and the performance exhaust, which looks rather boy-racer, but sounds amazing whilst encouraging the engine to rev even more frenziedly

The history folder is very full although the original book pack is no longer part of this

Evidence of early mileage comes from the Lease Plan computer print out when the mileage had already cranked up to 37.565 after 2.5 years (September 1987)

Further bills from 1990 onwards when the 911 was living in the Exeter area and all servicing was carried out by Carrs of Exeter Ltd - Porsche Official dealers as well as Mercedes, Bentley, Rolls-Royce and Ferrari too

They religiously looked after her every year and by 1995 the mileage was up to just about 95.000

Porsche specialist Jaz looked after her from 1998 at 98.250 miles and without going through every page of the folder, as before, there is an invoice every year to verify the continual maintenance of this Targa until 2006 when 119.703 miles had been travelled

Thereafter she has been used sporadically and the mileage has only crept up - now 131.000 - there are many MoT's in this period too

In the last year she has been treated to a full bare metal repaint (no accident damage to either the front end and nor the rear either - most unusual for Porsche's of this era), with new lights and rubber seals everywhere

Of course the wheels (very rare and very expensive the 8" rear wheels) were anodised to correct specification and fitted with new tyres and again these are to Porsche specification

The interior has been completely retrimmed, as per the Certificate of Authenticity in black leather, to include the dash top, steering wheel rear parcel shelf and door cards (both of the later fitted with fresh wood panels) and the sports seats and rear fold down seats and been trimmed with new wadding too

Mechanically everything has been fully tested and serviced as required, with only the gearbox requiring a rebuild

Refurbishment works account for more than £45.000 and the quality of the refurbishment is most marvelous

The Targa has an easily removable roof panel giving you open air motoring whilst the structural rigidity is so much better than a normal convertible, allowing you to indulge in the handling of the Sport package

Still extra-ordinary value against the 911 Turbo's of the same period, the performance of the Carrera Sport is still mind blowing, and more easily delivered on the road too

Thought to be one of the rising stars in the Classic market place, and one to put a huge smile on your face too
