1971 Mercedes-Benz 300SEL 6.3

Story and History

6.3 LHD & Immaculate Condition

A truly breathtaking example of these "super saloons" finished in traditional Mercedes Silver with black leather interior

These top of the line 6.3's were normally equipped with some serious luxury and this one does not disappoint!

Electric windows, tinted glass, electric sunroof, driver & passenger arm rests & headrests and air conditioning add to the feeling of opulence within the cabin - oh, and the original Becker Mexico Radio / Cassette is still holding centre stage on the fascia

The doors close with a secure "thud" as the build quality of Mercedes at this period was second to none

The performance is quite astonishing with acceleration akin to that of a Ferrari in period

The sprint from 0 - 60mph was accomplished in under 7 seconds for instance

This cracker was delivered to the US and spent the next 40 years in the warmth of California - so no rust issues with which to contend

The history folder is non existent - except for the Title document from the last owner, who was the son of the original keeper

As would have been expected of the original owner, a sticker in the window attests to the fact that he was a Pilot as he was a member of the "Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association" - who'd wish for nothing less from an owner who was well heeled in period!

He had the 6.3 repainted and retrimmed (all wood veneers had also been restored beautifully both on the fascia and also in the door cards and window surrounds too) prior to sale and thereafter when imported to the UK all servicing works have been entrusted to our friends at Roger Edwards

They went through all aspects of the mechanical side of the car (the cosmetics are almost unmarked) with the suspension and hydraulics all in tip top condition

They even sourced a set (all 5 including the spare) of the correct Michelin XWX tyres, which were the very best high speed tyre of the period - nothing came close until the Pirelli P7 arrived in 1975 (or thereabouts)

Ice cold air conditioning blasts through the fascia air vents as well so all in all, this is definitely one of the good ones

If you're looking for a 6.3 (or even if you're not) this one is more than worth consideration
