1984 Mercedes Benz 500SL - Full Nut & Bolt Restoration Only 9.000 miles since
The ubiquitous Mercedes SL range has always been a must have car, with style
Almost worn as a badge for your wife, (or even your mistress), they were normally found parked next to the family Rolls-Royce and Range Rover on the drive
To show that you've made it, in the seventies or eighties these, together with a matching pair of gold Rolexes, were essential
Launched in 1971 initially with the 350SL and shortly followed with the more powerful 450SL - very expensive to buy Mercedes had found a specific niche in the luxury car segment, which no-one have noticed
Production lasted until 1989 and even then they were selling with alacrity, still nothing in the market place had been even touched their individual character
During production models were updated and the top of the range 450SL was replaced by the 500SL in 1980, continuing as the premium version in the UK and Europe until production was halted
Our smashing car is a 1984 model and has the benefit of being fitted with the necessary extras, including cruise control, central armrest, updated stereo and speakers and most importantly factory air conditioning
Sadly even with updated rust protection and Mercedes build quality, many of these cars were prone to excess rust, much of which is very expensive to eradicate
Fortunately our example has been subject to a full strip down and restoration, to every last nut and bolt
Only 9.000 miles have been covered since, with all service or check over having carried out either by us, or Mercedes Benz Brooklands - in fact the most recent service bill for them was in July 2019
Finished in Astral Silver with Blue check cloth interior, refurbished Top Hat alloy wheels, shod with Michelin XWX tyres (ie factory spec) this beauty comes with both hard top and soft top (blue mohair, of course) whilst the seats and rear load deck, are covered and protected by new sheep skin covered in dark blue
She must be one, if not the best, available anywhere
