1978 Bentley Corniche 2 Convertible LHD - 1 of 6 only produced
Well it's somewhat like the old phrase about London buses - you wait for ages for one to come along and then all of a sudden 4 arrive at once
The same can be said for us and Bentley Corniche - we hadn't owned one of these extremely rare cars for very many years and then in the last 12 months we have had the opportunity to sell them on 5 different occasions
This particular beauty is presented in the perfect psychedelic colour combination, with fresh paintwork and mohair hood complimenting the mainly original leather interior
The carpets have been changed to "hessian" bound in brown hide, made to exactly the MPW pattern as the last owner kept her in the South of France and this material suited the beach life much better than the Wilton & Lambwool of normal Bentley carpeting (think about leaving Club 55 after a lovely luncheon in your Espadrilles) - it certainly does look very smooth, S of F, St Tropez style for sure
Mechanically she is on the button, for there is a raft of invoices from official Bentley agents and specialists during his tenure, both from the S of France and also Switzerland where another home was kept - very many thousands of Euros and Swiss Francs have been lavished keeping her in the finest state of health
He also saw fit (good move in our eyes too) to install the fabulous Becker Mexico Retro stereo unit, which looks period but actually has the latest refinements of blue tooth for your telephone & iTunes plus Navigation too
Becker no longer makes these units so they, like Classic Cars, have increased in value over the last few years
Also a good move in our eyes was his decision to convert the series 2, impact absorbing bumpers to the prettier, and generally much more favoured, series 1 chrome bumpers, making this perhaps the ultimate specification
Since arrival here in Kensington we have given her a further full service and MoT whilst also ensuring all electrical items are, literally, on the button
Supplied to Beverly Hills in the US initially, she would have looked the absolute part over there in the brilliant sunshine with her gleaming new walnut over silver sand paintwork (she also was fitted with a beige hood and dark brown hides to the interior including the top and knee rolls)
As an early series 2 she naturally enjoys the sharp, rack and pinion steering, revised fascia and the tremendous bi-level climate control, so good in fact it was still fitted to Bentley Motor Cars as recently as 2003
A remarkably rare opportunity to buy a fabulous and stylish Bentley drop head
