1976 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray L82 - Superb Rally and Tour Specification
A magnificent example of the wonderful, and exuberant American muscle cars, most famously named as the American Sport Car
Our version was imported from the States in 2015, and kept by only 2 owners since manfucture in 1976
Since when all EU registration regulations and taxes were taken care of and subsequently the 3rd owner has kept the 'Vette in Mallorca and Southern Spain
Our Stingray has been appointed with most of all optional extra's in the order book, vis-a-vis:-
Leather interior
Power windows
Window fogger
Tilt-Telescopic Steering Column
Air conditioning
PAS
Power brakes
Alloy wheels (first time of issue in 1976)
L82 engine option (250bhp gross & only 13% of production again)
Manual gearbox (only 13% of production)
Again the Orange Flame paintwork was unusual with only 9% used in production, although there were 10 colour options - with Silver and White being dominate
So our Stingray is a very rare example and with the L82 engine plus the manual transmission was capable of 0 - 60 in 6.5 seconds
Delightfully further equipped with a modified exhaust manifolds and the Holly carburettor breathing through the Edelbrock inlet manifold
The balance of the exhaust system is free flowing too so not only is performance significantly upgraded but the noise produced at any time is simply fantastic
Fully serviced first when arrived in the UK and with many recent upgrades carried out both here and in the US too this 'Vette is simply a real drivers car, with everything working correctly and above and beyond original specification
The list of improvements are herewith:-
New carpets
New door cards
Sill plates
Door rubbers
Central console plynth
Handbrake console
Interior vents renewed
New compressor for air conditioning
T-Top rubbers
All hoses & belts
New raised letters tyres
New bushes front to back
Overhauled differential
Manual transmission linkage overhaul
New front shock absorbers
New water pump
New viscous fan
Power windows overhaul
New HT leads
Major service (all cylinders achieved over 170 - 180 lbs for compression test)
All new badges to bonnet, wing, rear end and fuel cap
New luggage rack
New passenger door mirror
New handbrake
Greased chassis
Oils in diff, gearbox and engine have all been changed
Fully tuned up and tested extensively she now performs with the most amazing acceleration, matched up with the most phenomenal V8 rumble, accompanied by the crack of the exhaust system
The 'Vette took part in the Moto Mallorca in October, with not a single issue after the 3 day tour - funnily, in the acceleration test the Corvette was timed at only one tenth of a second (0.1) behind a 1973 Porsche 2.7 Lightweight RS - the owner was aghast!!
Remember in period the Nasa Astronauts, from the first Mercury 7 Astronauts, to all others, all used Corvette as their everyday transport - using the Corvette to go to work, in Space!
Pretty heady stuff and these cars, good enough for Astronauts, certainly offer a big bang for your buck, for sure
