1981 Range Rover In Vogue Special Edition
Amongst the many Range Rover 3-door Classics we have owned, the In Vogue is one of the rarer and most desirable. Of the few produced (there are no figures to verify production numbers), not many are left in excellent condition, so what a pleasure to have been offered this top example.
The In Vogue story is an interesting one and it is those early “luxury” Range Rovers and their sales success that encouraged the manufacturers to go “up market” as they did.
Conceived with this in mind they launched the series with an 8-page feature in Vogue magazine in March 1981 – “Rendez-Vous a Biarritz”. This new version appeared alongside the new Jaeger spring collection and helped to position the Range Rover, consciously it must be said, with high-style and leading fashion.
Readers of Vogue magazine were blown away by the new models suave style and contemporary updates, and they received so much interest that they prepared a limited run, all of which were copies of the photo-shoot car.
The vehicle had special Vogue Blue metallic paintwork, two-tone broad coachlines to the waist, high-compression engine and taller transfer box ratio, air conditioning, storage locker to centre armrest, polished wooden door cappings, fully carpeted boot and spare wheel cover, map pockets to seat backs, stainless steel tailgate cappings, black wheel centre caps, and of course, the famous picnic hamper, which our car still has present! We mention this as they are very rarely to be found with the cars any more
This particular example is in great shape & we have a full list of all works carried out over the last 2 years to ensure just so. The original interior is all still present, which has a nice overall patina and presents very well.
In summary, a fantastic opportunity to acquire a really early edition (March 1981) in exceptional order.
