1975 BMW 3.0

Story and History

1975 BMW 3.0 CSi - many upgrades incl 5 speed gear box

An immaculate example of these wonderful sports coupes of which very, very few are now left

Having previously owned CSL's but never the CSi, I was intrigued to compare the two, as intrinsically they are almost the same vehicle

Firstly the build quality is much better - the heavier doors, bonnet and boot lid certainly add to the weight of the car but conversely everything shuts so much better and feels well closed when done

The seats are very comfortable and the engine, albeit 2997 and not 3003cc is just as powerful.

Nearly all of the UK CSL's came with the City Pack ( carpets, door handles, electric windows etc ) were part of the package so really it's only the Scheel seats, wider wheels (which this has CSi anyhow) and aluminium bonnet, boot and door skins which seperate the CSL from the CSi

Strangely the CSL, which originally was scarcer, is now more prevalent than the CSi - less than 40 still remaining in the UK now

This lovely example was in the ownership of an engineer for 30 or so years and since then only two enthusiast owners, both of whom are very well known to us

The first of these two owners has many other cars in the stable (as does the second chap too) and is well used to looking after them properly - to such an extend that this BMW swallowed up 10.000 worth of "love" during his 18 months ownership

The subsequent of these two most recent owners has had, therefore, only minor expenditure

I love the colours - so 1970's - and am moved to wear a brown tweed jacket with wide lapels, kipper tie and massive flared trousers too (thankfully my wife wouldn't allow it!!!)

The original beige velour seats facings, although in quite good "nick", were actually too dirty and worn out so we had our trimmer re-trim the seats in lovely tan leather - finishes her off beautifully

Other than that she really is a gem, her 3.0 litre 6 cylinder injected engine (200 bhp) pulling very eagerly and driving though an upgraded 5 speed gear box

The exhaust system is stainless steel, the tyres are nearly new and fitted to upgraded 15" Alpine alloys (CSL style but an inch larger) with chrome arches, again from the CSL to finish things off nicely

Finally there is a Parrot blue tooth telephone kit, modern radio / CD / MP3 unit with high quality speakers

80.000 miles from new only and a real joy to drive - as BMW advertised themselves in those days - a Drivers Car - and one to watch out for in the future, as their values are sure to move in one direction only
