1971 Fiat Dino Spider 2.4 - Restored Condition
This Dino is just completely fabulous - 1 owner since 1986, kept within a stable of other Italian exotic cars and bikes (Ferrari, Moto Guzzi & Ducati) and variously taken to either Italy or Monaco, where he kept holiday homes
He had a very well known Travel Agency in Mayfair and what with business, family and Charity commitments none of the cars were very much used - the Dino had only 88.000 kms in 1985 and now has 95.000 kms
She was most recently kept in Italy (always transported there) and has been treated to completed restoration - a repaint from bare metal in Dino Blue Metallic, engine rebuild, new tyres (Goodyear Grand Prix 70VR), new soft top, complete re-trim in beautiful tan hides with matching dark blue carpets - the original Hard Top is in good condition and has not been touched
After completion she was driven to Monaco and initial tweaks and first service were carried out, after which she was driven home to England over a 2 day period
So problems at all and apparently she roared down the motorways with a glorious exhaust noise with some very amused modern cars drivers, as she sped past them!!
This Dino 2.4, chassis number 001508, was produced in 1971 through the Ferrari production line in Maranello - only 424 were built in 2.4 specification as opposed to 1133 produced in 2.0 litre
Through Ferrari the 2.4 gained many distinguishing upgrades - and not just a button here or a knob there, these were remarkable changes
A replacement 5 speed gearbox from ZF, larger 4 wheel disc brakes, larger radiator, larger and better starter motor, 5 stud hubs now carried 6.5 inch alloy wheels and most importantly an all new independent rear suspension set up changed the cars overall dynamics
There optional head rests and other changes, such as a 25mm increase in overall length (in fact most body panels are not inter changeable to the 2.0, except for the door skins)
The 2.4 also has a very early Electronic Ignition system - the Dinoplex (Such a wonderful name)
Produced by the Magneti Marelli company, famed for their systems on Ferrari production cars, as well as the Ferrari Formula 1 cars
Over time most of the early systems have been removed an changed with non standard equipment - you'll be pleased to know that 001508 still has the original Dinoplex in situ and working correctly
So in essence we have beautiful example, of a very elegant design, owned by a chap for over 30 years and which has been restored in Italy, is ready to go
