1968 Citroen DS

Story and History

1968 Citroen DS 21

What a charming example we have here - as a rare 1968 model there are the, then new, attractive enclosed headlights together with the quaint two tier dashboard with starter button replaced for the 1969 models onwards

Having lived in the Dordogne she was discovered showing only 49.866 kms by Morton Stockwell Group in 1990 who put her with their team of experts down there for a complete restoration

The body was stripped to bare metal and repainted by Jean-Marc Boulesteix, the trim was replaced by Phillipe Vergeau and the mechanicals were overhauled (new pistons, liners, valves and bearings, 5 speed manual gearbox etc etc) by Michael Petit, who had previously owned a Citroen Agency for 20 years - so he, like the others, certainly knew his Citroen stuff

Whilst in the process of the restoration the trim was changed from nylon to hide, wool carpets were fitted, as was Pallas exterior trim and finally the electrics were rewired

There was an article about the restoration team in Car Magasine, August 1990 edition, and this car is photographed, part dismantled, therein

Upon completion she was purchased by an English gentleman in Kent who has kept her since - during which time only 17.000 miles have been travelled

All service documents during this period of ownership are within the file, which include a full stainless steel exhaust system and the wax oiling of the door cavities together with routine service items plus there are also the majority of MoT certificates too

All in all a very nice, unusual and usable example
