1965 Mercedes Benz 220SEB Coupe - Remarkable Condition
These Coupe's were mega money when they were first sold here in the UK and hence, not many were ever registered
Finding sound original examples in truly outstanding mechanical and cosmetic condition is almost like finding a needle in the proverbial haystack!
Without reading too far into this description, I'm sure that you guessed what we have here, is just that
The pictures, whilst doing the car justice, do not convey the honesty of this motorcar and oh, the colours are just heavenly; so period and unusual too
The ivory steering wheel and gear knob (she has everything you'd wish for and more) for the manual gears are just the icing on the cake, toping off the dreamy interior spec'
The last owner has used the car for several Continental journey's whilst keeping her in tip top shape and there is a seperate set of bills here, for his ownership with Mercedes guru DB Classics in Market Harborough, to the tune of about £15.000
The engine has been overhauled as necessary, fuel pump overhaul, as has been the steering, whilst the interior, mainly original, has been fettled to ensure she looks and feels like a Pall Mall Club - even the wooden instrument binnacle and screen surround have been treated to some honest updating, without losing the authenticity of her 50 years of life
The lighting has been upgraded with LED bulbs, without changing the lenses so that you wouldn't realise until following on a dark night, even a foggy one for that matter
Everything else works as it should and the rasp of the exhaust from the 6 cylinder is very sporting and performance is actually rather spirited
As pretty as you could wish for, she cuts a dash wherever she goes - we are using her all the time and the shrieks of happy passers by do not go unnoticed, with waves and even applause as we whisk by onlookers in Kensington and Knightbridge
It amazes us that this early version of the W111 is just as much fun to drive and yet is worth about half as much the later V8 powered 3.5 (and we've owned both) ....... go figure, and take the opportunity before prices sky rocket
