1970 Rolls-Royce Mulliner Park Ward

Story and History

1970 Rolls-Royce Mulliner Park Ward 2 door saloon - restored condition

This beauty is quite a famous car - specially commissioned to be finished in ICI Special Green non metallic paintwork and trimmed in beige striped cloth

Whitewall tyres were specified by Firestone together with plain sundym glass throughout, full refrigeration and a special console to house the electric seat switches (normally fitted to the door cards and considered as being not as easily accessible)

Various other bits and bobs were also fitted here and there so that when completed and delivered to Jack Barclay Ltd in Berkeley Square, London W1 she was just in time for PDI prior to Christmas 1969

I know from experience the car would have been delivered to the new owners home prior to Christmas, preregistered for use from the 1st January

What a joy to have your brand new Rolls-Royce hand built motorcar, sitting outside when you look out from your bedroom window on 25th December - fingers crossed it was a White Christmas too!

The first owner kept her for many years, mainly chauffeur driven until he changed her for another of the same model (Corniche version by then) in 1984

We have many invoices from Official Rolls-Royce dealerships for servicing works until the late 1990's and obviously she was very well maintained and cared for

Having said that there are no service books for the period from 1970 - 1984

The first owner was a public figure and he had his car serviced by Jack Barclay Ltd, HR Owen Ltd or indeed Rolls-Royce service department in Park Royal

The first MoT we have is from 1984 at 11.413 miles and with all of the various papers thereafter the mileage of 66.000 is true from that time onwards (55.000 for the last 35 years)

What we cannot validate is whether the mileage in 1984 was correct - or 114.413 or whether there was a change of speedometer in the meantime

I would suggest that the original owner used the car frequently and therefore the mileage in 1984 was possibly a reading, of 111.413 - just to be clear

Anyhow, a great friend of mine purchased her in 2007 and in amongst his myriad car collection she sat really well (Cricklewood Bentley's, 'R' Type Continental, S1 Park Ward DHC, E Type, Austin Healey, 275 GTB etc etc)

As with all of his cars everything has to be perfect, and whilst she was a great car, he wanted her to be just as perfect as all of the cars in his collection

Nothing was missed in the restoration and what we see now is a rather splendid example of the marque

The interior was previously retrimmed, including replacing the 'striped cloth' for magnolia hides piped in dark green

Bills of over €65.000 have been found within the huge history folder and a CD of the works included too

She is just magnificent and set for another 40 years of quiet and elegant motoring
