1963 Bentley S3 Continental by HJ Mulliner Park Ward
Joining us again is one of our personal favourites – the undervalued and under appreciated Chinese Eye
All of the 2 door Continentals fetch such a premium over these equally, in our eyes, pretty coach built Bentley's
Built in really tiny numbers, as they were so very expensive when new, they perform with complete aplomb and are a delight to use, even in modern traffic conditions
This example we bought from her then long-term owner in 2007, he having owned her since 1984 and covering only 9,350 miles during that time, maintaining her correctly and regularly too - the logbook stating that there had been 2 previous owners. Shortly before our ownership, the car had a retrim and re-carpet and the following year, a full bare-metal repaint in Oxford Blue by Healey Bros
We subsequently removed all woodwork, which was stripped and repolished, and also fitted Air Conditioning and a modern stereo system that was hidden in the glove box
For the past 12 months she has been with a longstanding client and collector, who received her fully serviced and thoroughly checked over by our workshop, as she has been since 2007. Using the S3 in preference to his R-Type Continental (which we restored for him, by the way), he now sees fit to lose the S3 in order for him to have no excuse for leaving the 'R' Type in the garage.
This car has been lucky to be owned continuously by careful owners, who all took equal care and attention over the maintenance of her. Since 2007, we have meticulously cared for her, servicing and storing her properly, throughout.
Since we first purchased the Continental we have had the pleasure of not just maintaining her throughout but also supplying her to each subsequent owner too.
In essence a superior example, presenting in immaculate condition, driving beautifully having covered very little mileage within the last 30 years, and receiving regular and lavish attention during this period.
