1954 Bentley R Type

Story and History

1954 Bentley R Type Continental Fastback by HJ Mulliner - Concours Condition

BC68C is surely one of the finest R Type Continentals in existence today and has the desirable manual gear box

An exceptionally complete set of history files goes right back to the beginning of her life and confirms that for the most part she has been exclusively maintained by Official Rolls-Royce and Bentley Agents (she had an engine rebuild in 1984 by renowned Specialist PJ Fischer and there are 3 other Specialist invoices only)

H P Arnett & Son, Official Agents (laterly Arnetts of Bournemouth) carried out all maintenance until 1965 and then it was sent to the central London Factory Service Centre until 1970

Caffyns, again Official Agents, took over maintenance then through to 1982 and then it was PJ Fischer & specialists until P & A Wood, Official Agents again, took over in 1993

In fact they undertook a complete cosmetic rebuild between 1999 & 2001 where they stripped her to bare metal and repainted her, rechromed all brightwork, retrimmed and carpeted the interior, polished the steering wheel, woodwork, gauges, switchbox, footwell air vents, detailed engine bay to include cadmium plating etc etc

They subsequently supplied her to a new owner in 2002 and then maintenance was entrusted to Harwoods, Official Agents

In the last owners care she has been entered into all sorts of exciting events and from 2003 through to 2007 she has done rather well in the Autoglym Regional Concours Events - on each occasion has won and been invited to the National Grand Finals held at the NEC!!! She was also voted car of the Show at the Maguires Classic Car Show at the Alexandra Palace in 2006

Such was his passion for this car, one of many in his collection, that even at the Annual Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts National Rally at Kellmarsh Hall the R Type has finished either 1st or 2nd in Class in 2007, 2008 and 2009 (Elegance Winner 2008, 2nd in Class overall 2007 & 2009)

This against cars restored, with no expense spared, specifically to enter this prestigious Concours, whilst BC68C has been used on a regular basis and was restored a number of years previously - testament to the quality of the original works undertaken together with the care and diligence of the last owner

Fully registered with both the BDC and also the Continental Register this has to be one of the finest examples anywhere and would sit well in any collection

Prices of Fastbacks have risen steadily over the years, indeed a "barn find" in America, requiring restoration, has sold at Auction (March 2011) for $770.000 (481.250 at the prevailing exchange rate)

This example represents excellent value in today's market place and comes most highly recommended
