2 Door Saloon by HJ Mulliner £175.0001960 Bentley S2 Continental
An exceptional example of a very rare Continental, one of only 71 examples produced
Originally produced in Black Pearl with Blue hide she was specified with Parking / Flasher Lights, Wing Mirrors, Marchal Fulger Horn with Foot Switch, Electrically Operated Door Windows with passenger window power buttons also fitted to the dashboard just to the right of the steering column, which is rarely seen, as is the factory fitted refrigeration.
The Chassis Records confirm that she was originally supplied by HA Fox to Ellis Stanning Esq of Lloyd Pharmaceuticals Ltd in April 1960. She subsequently went to her second owner, The Hon. William Grosvenor, through Jack Barclay Ltd in October 1971
Having spent time in the USA she was brought back to the UK by P&A Wood in April 1989 and sold to her next Owner, Neville Cormack OBE, in May of the same year
He has confirmed that he requested P&A Wood to undertake a cosmetic restoration prior to taking delivery. This work included new paintwork and a complete retrimming of the interior in beige hide. Carpets were also replaced in wilton bound in beige hide and a matching woolcloth headlining was fitted. Finally the wood veneers were removed and repolished before being carefully refitted
Whilst he rarely used the Bentley during his ownership he did entrust Official Dealers, Appleyard of Rippon, to overhaul the heads of the engine.
Keeping the Continental until November 1997 she passed into the hands of a Classic Car Collector who relinquished ownership earlier this year - again he barely used the Bentley which helps to explain her remarkable condition. She was kept in perfect storage conditions with many other important vehicles
It is a sign of the quality of the restoration works and also to the care with which she has been kept that she is still in absolutely fine condition.
